Chemical plant explosion felt as far away as Maine

Danvers is the next town over from us, the plant itself is 2-3 miles away as the crow flies. We're OK, but boy, did we hear a loud "BOOM!" this morning... we got up and looked around the house, figuring the kitties had knocked over something big or a wind gust had knocked down a gutter or something. Who knew?

Thankfully nobody was killed, and only about a dozen people were injured... given the size of the explosion, they're calling that a small miracle in itself!

Goodness! I can't believe that no one was hurt seriously in an explosion of that magnitude. Maybe health effects will be delayed.

the plant was closed for the night, so no employees were there, and they said that because people were asleep, being under blankets protected them from broken glass, etc. and so far they figure that the levels of chemicals that made it into the air and water won't be a problem, beyond a bit of clean-up... they figure that the initial explosion consumed a good chunk of them, so there was very little left to burn slowly.

Holy geez,...was just reading about that on the CNN web site, some mess, amaing luck that no one was killed. Looks like a sign to go buy lottery tickets or something.

Do you remember when that nut put a bomb in the Montreal train station? (20+ years back) I was right in the middle of that one,...well not technically in the middle, more like on the sidewalk right outside. Five minutes earlier and we would have been right on top of it.
